Spartacus: War Of The Damned

Spartacus: War Of The Damned, Review, The Flawed Guru There aren’t many positives that can be taken from waking up at 4am, 3 hours before your alarm, and then not being able to fall back asleep. So after 30 minutes of trying, I decided to just get up and be productive, which quickly just turned into watching stuff, as I tend to do.

It was great catching up on YouTube videos for the upcoming Clash Of Clans update, which for those who know me well, know that game is my daily guilty pleasure. I was also able to rewatch the first episode of season 4 of GOT, and once again hear great lines from The Hound, such as, “what’s a Lommy”, and, (Arya) “lots of people name their swords”, (The Hound) “lots of cunts”. But I was also able to watch the last episode of the last season of Spartacus, War Of The Damned, and finally bring that series to a close for me.

I have really enjoyed this season, and rank it up there with the mini series that was the prequel, and it was so cool to see the scale just build and build as it got more and more epic. The battles got bigger, the emotion got bigger, the sex scenes almost got bigger, but all up the stakes were raised to as high as they could go.

Spartacus: War Of The Damned, Review, The Flawed Guru Having watched this show pretty intently, and knowing full well the potential final implications for every character, meant I knew the final episodes could be rather emotional, and I wasn’t wrong. As characters you’ve known and loved for seasons start falling like flies, you couldn’t help but have those little pangs of sadness, wishing that it could some how end differently and have history rewritten.

With the final 15 minutes or so, and not wanting to have a cry before work, meant I often found myself looking away from the screen, puffing up my cheeks and blowing air out, drumming on my legs, and anything else I could do to stop any possible emotional outpouring. And even though I found it a hard episode to watch, and rather emotional, I did keep it together so I could really enjoy the end to this great series.

I loved this series, and though it was campy and kind of over the top in many ways and with a lot of average acting and directing, what made it awesome was the writing and the full commitment of all involved to make this show awesome, which is exactly what it was!

9 out of 10 from me!!!
