The other night when I was choosing a film to watch, I had about 100 to pick from, made up of ones I’ve never seen, and many I have but have also recently acquired to watch again. Because of this, it can often be hard to find the right film, so I either go purely off what mood I’m in at that moment, or I let a film jump out and pick me instead.
So on this night, it only took all of 10 seconds to pick Her for my nightly viewing pleasure. Not because I went looking for it in particular, but because as I sat down to look through my list of films, as just like I said, this one jumped out to be the one I picked. It had been a film I was looking forward to seeing since I first saw the trailer, and so I was excited to see it, and boy was I glad I did.
When you’re dealing with a not so distant future world where people can fall in love with AI operating systems, you can’t help but think about the implications for the very world we live in today. Is it possible, in our lifetime, that we may know people who will fall in love, not with something physical, but something purely intangible and only on a mental and intellectual level? And the answer is yes, and you don’t even need to be crazy to do so. Which made this film so damn interesting to watch and think about.
Not only was it an interesting tale about possible future love, it was so intriguingly accurate about any relationship that anyone has had or will have. So at its heart it’s a love story, and a damn good one at that! Just not a conventional love story. It was of course helped by some great acting, directing, and writing, and all up it makes this a must see for all cinephiles.
9 out of 10 from me!!!
