The Lego Movie was one of those films I really wasn’t so sure about when I first heard it was being made. Sure I loved Lego as a kid, and sure all the Lego games that have been made in recent times have rated highly, though I haven’t played them myself, but I still had doubts about how a movie could work.
Then the first trailer came out, and I started to see that this ‘could’ work. Though it didn’t exactly blow me away, but it didn’t look horrible either. Then the second trailer came out and it looked better, but still didn’t have me fully convinced. Then the turn-off-your-cellphone ads started playing before movies with Lego Batman playing on his phone, which were genius, and I suddenly wondered if that was a good sign for the actual film.
Then the film came out, and I heard nothing but good things about it, and it did great business at the box office, and so I knew I had to check it out. Then when Tuesday date night arrived, and it was playing at the perfect time to allow us to grab a meal before hand, meant I knew this was the perfect time to see it.
Now, this film is damn hard to fault. It had a couple jokes that fell flat. The ‘twist’ kind of ran a fine edge along the cheesy factor. Some of the animation made my eyes trip out a little bit with the fast shinning lights and movement. But other than that, I loved this film!
I thought the voice acting was great! The silly humour was right up my alley! It was damn clever and witty when and where it needed to be! And though the twist was a little on the cheesy front, I still really liked it and thought it was a cool way for them to take the story. So though this isn’t my favourite animated film of all time, it’s pretty damn close!
9.5 out of 10 from me!!!
