Godzilla

Godzilla, Film Review, Movie Review, The Flawed GuruNow I’m happy to admit that I had never seen a Godzilla film before tonight, as what can I say, I’m not really into the big monster genre. Why? Well, I guess of all the fantastical things, such as UFO’s, zombies, deadly plagues, earthquakes, volcanoes, or even vampires and werewolf’s, giant monsters just seems, improbable. And for some strange reason, I need some sort of believability when it comes to these things, even if it’s a 0.1% chance it could happen or be real.

So going into this film I was very much a blank slate, other than the fact the trailer looked awesome, and it was directed by Gareth Edwards who wrote and directed one of my top 10 films from 2010, the self made indie film Monsters. So to suddenly find myself excited to see a film like this meant they had clearly done something right. And picking Edwards for the director’s chair was a stroke of genius!

Godzilla, Film Review, Movie Review, The Flawed GuruWell, despite my girlfriend finding parts laughable and silly, I fricken loved it! I thought the story was strong and kind of believable, the acting was decent though some of the scenes felt a little forced, but the action was fricken awesome! Yes, they cut away a few times when action just started to kick in, but it was always done to help build tension so that when the major fights started it didn’t feel like you had already seen and gotten board of monster battles, which I never did.

I laughed at the right times, I felt tense at the right times, and I cheered for Godzilla at the right times, and boy do I want to see the sequel! Though coming up with more random giant monsters that keep appearing could get old quickly. Though I’ll be happy to see one more!
