X-Men: Days Of Future Past

X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Film Review, Movie Review, The Flawed GuruHaving been a comic book fan since I was a kid meant I was exposed to a whole bunch of different characters and teams. Of them all though, the X-Men stood out the most, with Wolverine in particular. So with comic book movies now coming out every year, I’m in heaven, but sadly with already 4 X-Men films out there, and 2 Wolverine ones, I have yet to see one that lives up to my childhood love for the comics. Though the second Wolverine film got damn close!

So with the 5th X-Men film out, I was still hoping this might be the one, but I was wary. Number 4, which was a prequel, had an awesome trailer and I thought this was finally the film I had been waiting for, but sadly it was half awesome, and half crappy. This one on the other hand had an ok trailer, but lots of people raving about it, so I tried to go in open minded that it was going to be awesome.

What it was though was entertaining, but it felt incredibly hard to follow for anyone who hadn’t seen the other 6 films made before it. That’s not a bad thing, but for those who hadn’t seen them, I wonder what they made of many of the moments in the film that referenced other things. Even for myself, who had seen them, I almost wish I had watched them all again before seeing this, as even I was struggling to keep up with everything.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Film Review, Movie Review, The Flawed GuruThe action was cool, the in jokes were good, the directing solid, the premise was a bit meh, but easily my favourite thing about the whole film was the one I thought would be the lamest after seeing the trailer. That was Quicksilver! The character, and his action scenes, was so fucking cool! Let’s hope when he turns up in the next Avengers film that they deal with him in a similar way, as that was genius!

So all up I thought this was way better than number 3, better than 4 though didn’t touch the quality of a couple of the scenes from that film, and was on par with the first two X-Men films. With it fresh in my mind it’s easy to say it’s my favourite one to date, behind the second Wolverine film, but like I said, without having seen those recently, it’s really hard to judge. So I’ll just leave it at the main point, and that is it’s a fun and entertaining comic book film, but it still left me wanting something more.

8.5 out of 10 from me!!!
