There haven’t been many other films with the kind of hype and reputation The Interview came with for a long time, if ever when you think about it. Of course the hype wasn’t really around it being good or bad, but purely the reaction of its subject matter, that being North Korea and its leader Kim Jong Un. The reaction was so big in fact, it maybe cost many people their jobs, and I’m sure caused more than a little tension for those targeted by the hate towards it. So to say I had a very skewed opinion going into see the film would be an understatement.
Having seen it though, I can fully understand the issues people might have with its content, but you also get the feeling the subject matter strikes to close to home for them, so the complaints more come from the focus on the issues rather than the idea of an assassination on a world leader. As for the film though, I actually liked it much more than I thought I would! Not to say I thought I would hate it, but there had been a lot of talk saying it was shit and not worth the issues it caused.
I thought James Franco was great as the over acted interviewer, and Seth Rogen in many ways played the straight man in the film, which can be hard for a guy who’s look and sound kind of denotes him as not the straight man in any comedy film he’s in. Though the film is what it is, an over the top comedy with many site gags and outlandish moments, but if you switch off the brain, and just go in for a bit of fun and a laugh, I’m sure you’ll be entertained.
8.5 out of 10 from me!!!
