Insurgent

Insurgent, Film, Movie, Review, The Flawed GuruTeen fiction is of course not written for me, and neither are the films that result from the books, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try and be a bit more accessible to non teen audiences. Over the years there have been many misses, some massive hits, and many middle of the road film adaptations of these books, with the only ones really standing out in my eyes as pretty cool being Enders Game and The Maze Runner. Though that could also be that the lead characters are male in both of them, but I hope to think I’m a little more discerning than that.

When Divergent came out last year, it was aimed to try and be the next big teen film franchise, which was started with Twilight, and then passed the torch to The Hunger Games, with the latter being the far superior of the two. Divergent though sat in-between those two series, as it was good, but it also had the annoying things that just pull it down to a level that has people like me cringing. But, I didn’t mind it, and was more than happy to see its sequel, Insurgent, which was pumped out a year later.

I think I did enjoy this one more than the first, but that’s not to say there still weren’t big plot holes in my eyes, and also a few moments that made you laugh at the screen, rather than be gripped by what’s happening, and that’s never a good sign. So yes, it’s not made for me, but it is still watchable for a male in his mid thirties, and I’ll happily watch the next two, as like with Twilight and The Hunger Games, they are splitting the last book up into two movies, though I’m guessing like those two, it not really necessary other than for a money grab.

7 out of 10 from me!!!

  1. Wait, they already madea film for the sequel? It seemed like it was just a year ago the first film excited me because Skrillex was on the soundtrack.

Hunger Games were great (novels), but only after the first one when the author realizes she needs to live up to the hype. I want to get around this series, but I’m not expecting much but a little fun.
