Home, Film, Movie, Review, The Flawed GuruDreamWorks Animation is one of the heavy hitters when it comes to animated films, with of course Pixar on top of that list. Over the years they have put out some great films, such as the Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How To Train Your Dragon films, but they have also made some, that in my eye, are just middle of the road, such as The Croods, Over The Hedge, and Shark Tale. So with their latest offering out on the big screen, and knowing literally nothing about it, I decided to take my girlfriend along to see, Home.

Well, I did enjoy the film, but I was also a little bit bored during it. It was funny, and entertaining in parts, and as ever it had a heart-warming ending that wrapped it all up nicely, but I could never shake the feeling that this was just all very much middle of the road as some of their other films have been like in the past. It also felt a little too much like a project specially made for Rihanna, who voiced the main character, and had her songs play throughout the movie, which felt a little on the nose for me.

If you’re looking for a family friendly film that I’m sure everyone will get something out of, then give it a go, but if you’re looking for something a little more, something that will dig in deep and take you to the next level of your viewing experience, then look elsewhere. Also Pixar has their new film coming out in a couple months, so if you’re really patient, you could just wait for that one to get your animation fix.

8 out of 10 from me!!!

  1. It looks pretty good on the outside. That one-word title hints at something deep and it has a weird visual style. It’s sad to see it’s another meh film by them, but I’m not surprised. They have bad quality control.
