The Avengers 2

The Avengers 2, Film, Movie, Review, The Flawed GuruI’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, it’s a great time to be a live for comic book fans! After decades of being a fan of comics, I always had a cringing feeling when the film versions came out, as they were either just bad, or treated as a type of inside joke, even when they were ‘trying’ to be a ‘serious’ film adaptation. For DC that all changed with the 2005 Batman Begins, which has lead them down a very dark and twisted path, and for Marvel it was the 2008 Ironman. Both these films finally did comics proud, and has set both companies down different paths, though Marvel is by far the leaders right now.

Having sat down with my girlfriend over the last few weeks, to watch all the Phase 1 and Phase 2 films of this new Marvel Cinematic Universe, it really made me see how well thought out everything they are doing is. Which is just like how the comics are done, so it’s not really that surprising I guess. The Avengers, the last film of Phase 1 and the best of all the films to date, stood out to me as the pinnacle of how to treat a superhero team film, which films like, The X-Men, could really take a lesson from. So with, The Avengers 2, now out, and looking awesome, it was a must see on the big screen.

This film really is stunning, in every which way! Though I’m able to admit I may be biased towards it, as there were many scenes I felt like a grinning school kid seeing these characters and story arcs from the comics come to life. The action, the ramping up of the tension, the new characters, the tying up of old ways, and the continuation of the story, were all awesome and fitted so well together in my eyes. These films really are one big story, especially with the first three phases, and with Phase 2 ending in a few months with Ant-Man, and Phase 3 kicking off next year and running through to the end of 2019, all I can say is bring it on!

10 out of 10 from me!!!

  1. I never got the deal with the original Avengers. There was nothing interesting in it, aside from a few good character moments. Black Widow and Hawkeye are useless eye candy and the bad guys are bad because they want to take over the world. I find the film to rely more on familiarity rather than good storytelling.
