Pitch Perfect 2

Pitch Perfect 2, Film, Movie, Review, The Flawed GuruThere have been dance movies for a long time, even dating back to the golden age of cinema. There have also been musicals since the dawn of sound being introduced into cinema. So when people say things like Glee have changed things forever by making these genres cool, is kind of a short sighted view point. At the bare minimum though, it’s at least made those types of films more likely to get made these past few years, which allowed Pitch Perfect to come out and do big business.

The first film doesn’t have a solid place in my memory, but I do remember liking it, despite its awkward flaws. Though like I said, it did big business, so a sequel was always going to come around eventually, and though it was also good, it felt like a bit of a mess throughout. The introduction of a new main character seemed like the kind of thing older TV shows do to reinvigorate things, but this time it just felt odd. I almost wonder if they were already planning ahead for the third film, or even a spinoff series.

There were lots of good funny moments and lines, but it never seemed to fit together cohesively, and it almost felt like it was made by committee, rather than a writer and a director alone. People who love this genre, and the first film, I’m sure will still really like the film, but despite just liking it myself, it will quickly be forgotten in my mind. It also makes me want to see the first again to see how that stands up, as right now I’m not sure which I liked more, but I’m leaning towards the first.

7 out of 10 from me!!!
