I love a good documentary and even more a well made docudrama, especially if it’s based on a subject I find really interesting or on a person who has had a huge impact on the world. Without a doubt Hitler is one of those people who has had a huge impact on universal consciousness since the 1940’s.
With a high production value TV miniseries about his early life, meant you were almost guaranteed something that was going to be good, or at the very least informative and hopefully concise. Though because I watched this on DVD, rather than on TV over a few weeks, it never really felt like a miniseries and instead was just a 3 hour long movie.
With a stellar cast, and as stated, very high production values, they pulled off a very slick production. Robert Carlyle played the role of Hitler and did such a great job capturing his mannerisms and the power of the man that I can’t imagine anyone else playing this character. Though the show sometimes moved away from the true facts of his life story, it never felt like it took too many liberties.
7.5 out of 10 from me!!!
