With the glut of animated CG films that are around these days, it’s hard to stand out from the crowd…unless you’re a Pixar film that is. So when I saw the trailer for, 9, it really stuck in my mind as it seemed unlike any other CG film I had seen before. Throw into the mix Tim Burton as producer, and I knew this was going to be something I wanted to see as a cinema experience rather than on DVD in a few months time.
Right off the bat the CG was simply beautiful and the world it created was very easy for the viewer to get immersed in. The ‘voice acting’ was top notch and the action was enough to keep things interesting as the story unfolded. It felt like there was a real mystery needing to be solved as the characters found out more about their situation and why they were created.
However, for me, the storyline was the one element where I felt the film lacked as the pay off at the end wasn’t the best thing for the story. I felt the ending could have been a bit better, perhaps with a better message, but having said that, it was still a good ending and even leaves itself open for a sequel.
8 out of 10 from me!!!
