I’m a real sucker for well made kid’s movies as they either remind me of the great ones from my childhood or they capture the spirit of what it was like being a kid. Then of course there are the very kid orientated films which are really only made for the kid market and can be hard to sit through as an adult.
So when I got my invite to the, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, I wasn’t sure which bracket it would fall under, kiddie or about kids, but enjoyable for all ages to watch. I knew the books were big sellers and had a rough idea what it was about so I thought I’d go in with an open mind.
About 15 minutes into this film I still didn’t really know where it sat with my adult eyes. It had some great little moments but it also had a few moments that could be seen as very kiddie, which of course was great for the kid audience. But, as the film progressed, I was quickly shown that this film is for everyone and it even had some genius moments that only adults would really get.
The best parts of the film, for me, came from its great sound track and one scene in particular where a bunch of kids auditioning for the school musical sing the great 80’s Bonnie Tyler hit, Total Eclipse of the Heart. They also throw in a Beastie Boys dance number for good measure. All of this makes for a very well made film for all ages.
8.5 out of 10 from me!!!
