With the year wrapping up, means my thoughts drift towards my best and worst films of the year list. Though, before I do that, I had one last trip to the cinema for my last film of the year, which Daddy’s Home got the honour of being. Now, before going in I kind of knew this wouldn’t dislodge any of the best films of the year on my list, but it did have a chance of making my honourable mentions, or maybe even my top 5 worst films list.
Either way, I really just hoped it was funny and enjoyable, and so tried to remove those extra thoughts from my brain. What couldn’t be removed from my brain though was Will Ferrell’s and Mark Wahlberg’s last film together, The Other Guys from 2010, was actually really damn good, and did in fact make my honourable mention list that year. So it was actually hard going into this film with a blank slate seeing as there were other factors tied into the mix.
The film itself, though not as good as The Other Guys, was still fun and a good time at the cinema. It won’t win any awards for originality, but you don’t really go to these types of films for that. The chemistry between the stars was as good as ever, and the supporting cast was solid throughout. There were a few dead jokes, and a couple scenes that could have been better, but all up it was what I wanted. A relaxing 90 minutes filled with laughs, and good or bad, it won’t be making my best and worst film list this year.
8 out of 10 from me!!!
