2016! A new year and a new bunch of films to watch and review! That was until I started a business which lead to me working 30 days in a row and averaging 11 hours a day. Such things meant not much time or energy for trips to the cinemas, let alone writing reviews. The Revenant I actually watched a few weeks back, but with a sweet sweet day off at the moment, means I can finally get around to writing a review for this rather intense film experience.
I knew very little about the film going in, and maybe knew more about the making of it rather than the story line itself. There had been many things said about the intense shooting conditions, and what both cast and crew had to go through to see this film make it to the big screen. Sometimes these rumours can mean the film is a shambolic mess once seen, but sometimes these on-set distractions can still create something magical and special, such as Apocalypse Now.
The intenseness of this film started from the beginning and lasted right to the end, and that’s a tough thing to do for any film. It was very much a film that kept you guessing right to the end in the sense that it could easily have ended either way. The good guy winning. Or the bad guy winning. Not only that, the perils of the film felt so real that it made you realise how tough life can be in such harsh environments. Great film. Great acting. Great filmmaking. Nuff said!
9.5 out of 10 from me!!!
