The Accountant

The Accountant, Film, Movie, Review, The Flawed GuruFilms can be very faddy, meaning if something does well, similar type films are bound to come out in the years to come. Be it the teen fantasy films of the past 5 years, which seems to have now died down, the comic movies of the last 10, which is still going strength to strength, or the torture porn films of the mid 2000s, which also has died away from the main stream.

So when the Keanu Reeves film John Wick come out as a surprise hit in 2014, it felt like it could usher in a new bunch of big name stars taking on kick-ass assassin roles. It could be argued though that John Wick was in itself inspired by the 2008 film Taken which launched many copycats films, but John Wick felt even more high concept than the latter so could sit in its own little genre box.

That brings us to today’s film, The Accountant, which felt so much like John Wick, with just the motivations and character traits changed. A uniquely talented individual that has a main skill of being able to kill at will, and a world in which feels a little hyper real compared to the one normal people know. Both films were highly entertaining, funny, violent, cool, and generally opening themselves up to sequels, and though this wasn’t as good as John Wick, as it had some flaws, overall I still really enjoyed it.

8.5 out of 10 from me!!!
